Kenya's greatest tennis player is making a comeback. The sports world is watching closely.

Kenya's greatest tennis player has announced her return to professional tennis after 18 months away dealing with a severe shoulder injury that threatened to end her career.

The Comeback

The athlete, a Grand Slam winner and former world number 3, will play in the Tunisia Open next month as her first competitive match since undergoing surgery in October 2024. The injury had sidelined her from major tournaments just as her career was reaching peak form.

In a heartfelt Instagram video, she shared: "This journey has been the hardest of my life. There were days I didn't think I would ever hold a racket again. But I've been fighting, pushing, believing. I'm coming back stronger."

"We always knew she had the mental toughness to come back. What we didn't know was whether her body would cooperate. The fact that she's medically cleared is already a victory," said her longtime coach.

Industry analysts predict her comeback could inspire a generation of young Kenyan tennis players. Youth tennis enrollment in Kenya has been declining for three years, but is expected to surge following her announcement.

The tennis federation has committed Ksh 50 million to upgrade court facilities and coaching programs in anticipation of renewed interest in the sport.
